Hurricane Frances!!

Over one million urged to flee Florida coast as Frances approaches
Image

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) - Residents and tourists in cars, trucks and campers clogged highways Thursday in the biggest evacuation ever ordered in Florida, fleeing inland as mighty hurricane Frances threatened the state with its second battering in three weeks.
About 2.5 million residents were told to clear out ahead of what could be the most powerful storm to hit Florida in a decade. Other people in the 580-kilometre stretch covered by the hurricane warning rushed to fortify their homes with plywood and storm shutters, and buy water, gas and canned food.

Already a Category 4 storm with 225 kilometres per hour winds and the potential to push ashore waves up to 4.5 metres high, Frances could make itself felt in the state by midmorning Friday.

Hope our Mods and Members in that area keep safe...Image

I spent most of yesterday getting ready for Frances.
Boarded up all the windows and doors and loaded up on supplies.
We will finish getting ready today, by this afternoon we will be all set.

I live about 40 miles northwest of Orlando, so we are in the projected path.
The biggest problem that I foresee is loosing power for a few days :(

Thank you both
We are ready; I have done everything on the list.

My biggest fears are the 12 large oak trees that are close to our house.
They are all at least 75 ft tall the largest one is over 7 feet in diameter and about 100 feet tall.
I have my chain saw ready, and plenty of gas.
Everything that can be charged is charging cell phones, laptop, cameras, and kids games.
All of our papers are in a waterproof fire safe ready to go if we have to.
The pets (3 large birds, 3 cats, 1 dog) are inside the fortress, my house now looks like a zoo.
Thank god and my new Doctor that I was able do all the work myself and well ahead of Frances. :D

Hmm...this morning on the news I heard there were 7 deaths related to Hurricane Frances and not only did it touch down in Florida but also Georgia!!
6 million people without electricity and I can't tell you how many homeless!
And to make matters worse...the BIGGEST ever is already headed their way... for another weekend touch down!! Packing winds as fast as 250 MPH!!
My heart goes out to everyone in it's path...plz stay safe!!
I know Gecko is right in the thick of it and I'm really hoping to see a post from him soon...

I am in north georgia, just north of Atlanta, and so far we have been lucky. We have had a lot of rain, and some high winds, but nothing like Florida had.
Apparently some 10,000 homes are without power around here, and will be for a couple of days.
Most people were told to stay home today, and work from home, as the traffic was terrible, what with the flooded roads and bits of tree everywhere.
I hope anyone who got the full brunt of this is ok.
