XP cant remove Home SA, Shopping Wizard and Search Extender

Postby CanadianTek » Fri Sep 24, 2004 4:37 pm

on a win XP system

RAN Spybot1.3, and Ad-aware...
found 171 spies and removed them

Nortons reported to be virus free..

but i guess it blurs the line on trojans..

as Stinger found 2 copies of Qhosts present and removed them

bazooka says its clean

added and removed a few other spies.. like Search Assistant, and webrebates...

but..

could not get rid of

Home Shopping Assistant
Shopping Wizard
and
Search Extender

when you go to add/remove.. it says it cannot find..

www.looking-for_ etc.. .html

i try to clean while not connected to the net, as i am certain when they try to go to mother server on the net.. whining that they're about to get erased.. mother server says.. thats ok.. we will send down another copy ..under a different name.. let them take you out this time.. (if that sounds like paranoia, fine, i will live with it.. - if they are not sending new copies down.. with different names, then at the least, they are stealing more cookies, email addresses and ip's)

so.. i ran hjt v 1.98.2 which seems to be the latest..

here is the log (i see a lot of problems myself but after being burnt once on a "guess" and having to restore to a previous.. and start all over.. i thought i would leave it up to you guys until i can get in some training)

* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)
