WinME on ASUS A7N266-VM/AA mobo gets 0E:0187:BFF77328 error

Sometimes when I try to boot i get

THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH...

An error has occurred:

to continue

press enter to return to windows or

press CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart your coputer. If you do this you will lose any unsaved information in all open applications

0E: 0187: BFF77328

press any key to continue

when you hit enter.. it returns the same blue screen of death

when you do the reboot..

it comes back .. gives you an option to enter safe mode,

in safe mode..

it seems to boot ok..

if i booted into the bios... from a cold start.. these are the processor temps i got over a 13 minute interval.. BUT the blue screen of death is immediate, not 10 or 20 mins into useage..

(mobo and ram and vid card and hd have all been replaced in the past 18 months)

I swapped out the power supply just in case the voltages were off.

Same..

Time Mobo : CPU
0 mins 25C : 25C
1 min 26C : 28C
3 mins 28C : 30C
10 mins 30C : 35C
13 mins 31C : 37C

now i checked out a few things on the web..

Athlon 1700+ is rated for up to 90C before thermal breakdown..?

MOBO was later renamed A7N266 - E and was tested to be compatible with both versions of the 1700 AMD Chip

Ram is 512 Meg of DDR @266mhz Ram.. apparently rated to handle up to and including an AMD 2100 in speed

has been up in "safe mode now for 70 mins now.. hmmm "
