Hey all. As some of you know I am starting to build my Gaming Machine. Now all the Computer will be used for is for Gaming, Multimedia stuff, making Graphics and Animations and a bit of Video editing maybe. Now I cannot decide, the AMD ATHLON 3000+, or the Intel Pentium 4 at 3.0 GHZ with HT. Now can some gamers out there point me in the right direction. I will be running a Nvidia Video Card, the 6800GT 256 MB Card to be more detailed. So can anyone help me decide please?! Thanks guys and gals

either of those processors are going to be fast. You'll likely get more overclocking headroom from the AMD side of things though. The XP 2500+'s that newegg sells almost always OC to 3200+ speeds even with the generic stock cooling. It is a gamble, but the xp2500+ and the mobile athlon 2400+ are the biggest overclockers in the industry.

if you don't want to overclock, then I'd go with Intel. Although some people have had luck with overclocking the P4 2.4 prescott to 3.4 - 3.7 ghz. Check out

As you'll probably notice in dan's article the newer amd 64 chips don't have a whole lot of o/c headroom, so go with the above mentioned athlon xp chips if you want an AMD chip.

I do not plan on Overclocking it. So would the AMD ATHLON XP 3000+ be good for gaming?
