sp2 popup problem

Postby robym6 » Wed Oct 06, 2004 12:06 am

When I go the following site: http://www.weather.com/newscenter/tropical/?from=0803wc, the built in popup blocker in sp2 blocks a literally never-ending string of popups. The little sound that plays when the blocker stops a popup doesn't stop, so i guess that means that there are a continuous string of popups. If I temporarily allow popups from this site, then an almost unstoppable number of new IE windows start appearing. What is going on?

Download / Install / and Update: . Now Run it and post a copy of the Log File here.
**(Always create a Folder for HiJackThis anywhere but your Temp/Temporary Internet Folders. This is where it will save the backup files needed if there's a problem.)**

Stick to one post robym6...
Asking the same question in 2 different posts causes confusion.
You'll get help faster posting your :?: once...

Hi robym6

Before you start your instructions from one of the moderators create a Folder for HiJackThis anywhere but your Temp/Temporary Internet Folders. A good place to make a folder would be in My Documents, as this is where it will save the backup files needed if there's a problem.

firstly, the two questions aren't the same; secondly, the problems happened hours apart from each other so separate threads were inevitable; thirdly hijackthis is in a permanent folder in C :\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop; and finally i really didn't mean for confusion

Hi
Thanks for explaining :)

Here is where I'm seeing where your HJT is located
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\Temporary Directory 1 for hijackthis.zip\HijackThis.exe

*edit
The reason we don't want your HJT in a Temp folder is when you Fix with HJT it makes backups, you need these backups in case something was mistakenly removed. If its in your Temp folder alot of times at the end of the HJT instructions you are instructed to empty the Temp folders. I hope this explains why we are so stern with this proceedure.

ok, i see, hjt is now in "my documents" (is this OK?) the reason for it appearing in the logfile was that it was started in the temp folder but also showed up on the desktop as a separate folder

Look, the two different problems are with the same computer not two different computers. One problem (this thread) is with the sp2 popup blocker when I go to a certain website. However the other problem is with IE6 freezing for no apparent reason.

The reason that I didn't put both problems in the same thread is because they happened at different times. Confusion was not my intention, so I'm sorry that is what is going on.

Ok that's exactly whats happening.

Dont get upset we are only trying to help. Posting 2 logfiles will probably get you confused also.
So listen I'm locking the other thread because we finally got your HJT in the proper place in this one. We can address 2 problem in the same logfile if thats where its steming from.

If this would happen again you can always EDIT your first thread.
