external hard drive help

Postby rd36mnm » Sun Oct 10, 2004 1:41 pm

Hi...........sorry for the simple question but I just can't seem to find the definitve answer. I have an older PC running Win98. I have no real need to upgrade to the latest and greatest but I do want to add an external hard drive to backup my important things. My question is the external drives today are 2.0 USB . My old clunker is still the old 1.1(??). Can I transfer from my old drive without having to get new card or whatever? Thank you in advance.

USB 2 devices will fall back to USB 1 if 2 is not supported. However I seem to remember that USB support was radically overhauled in win98SE. If you have the original version of windows 98 then you may find it flakey....
