I was working on a pc the other day, a customer didn't have an anti-virus installed so I had a N.A.V. 2004 and I suggested using it. Just before installing I noticed in his Start>Programs he had a N.A.V. Try Me in the Programs. This obviously came installed with the pc but it wasn't actually installed yet.
A few days after installing and d/l definitions he called said he was having troubles with Norton. He was upset wanted it off his computer. :shock:

It would not scan his incoming email. I went and looked at it and in the taskbar it was disabled. I couldn't open it, right clicking to enable did not work so I decided to uninstall. Well you couldn't uninstall it, it would take you in a loop. You couldn't remove any folders related to it either.
I ended up booting to safe mode and removing any folders and files I could find. They were very well hidden.
I also had to edit the registry which amazed me to where this program had placed files.

I successfully uninstalled Norton, but it was terrible, acted like a virus.

Sorry I'll get to my question.......

When a pc comes loaded with a 90 day free trial period of an anti-virus are you getting the full program or are there features that are not going to be included ?
He was told he didn't have the full program and that was why he had trouble. I disagree........
I don't know what to think other than N.A.V. hasn't lived up to it' name and I would never purchase anything from them again.

Norton antivirus comes with a complete full installation (including registry keys) with the 90 day trial... it can be activated after exspiration on-line without any futher downloads (electronically buy a cd key) ...

i never have liked norton much.

i use macafee and avg....

I used to swear by Norton but these last few months Ive been steering away from it. Only problems it creates. It has missed so many viruses on my sons pc it sickening

I've had a few problems similar to that when a virus would attack Norton or Mcafee and disable it--you basically couldn't install becase of a catch 22, it was already there.

Go to lavasoft and dl the free utility reghance.

Using the find function and checking the box to search the whole registry, you can nail all 50 or more regisrty entries for Norton with one mouse click

It sure beats F3 ing through the registry one item at a time.
