Bios won't Detect New serial ATA Drive

Postby Quantum » Fri Oct 22, 2004 9:10 pm

I am running Windows XP Professional on a Neo MSI MB with the latest updates. The bios will not detect the Serial ATA Drive from Western Digital, but is present in F-disk and when windows is running. I can select the drive in boot sequence but the Windows XP Pro install disk can't see the drive. I have tried installing the correct driver by hiting F6 with no success. I have been told to double click on auto in the bios, but I don't have mouse support in bios. I am out of Ideas. Please help.

I am new to this site. I just want to say it looks great and thank you for all you do for people. All of you who give of your free time for this site helping people need to give yourselves a pat on the back. I am a computer tech and I know you don't get as much thanks as you should. Way too go!

What's the model # of your MOBO.
You've Enabled it in the BIOS?
The SATA RAID Drivers for WinXP only, need to be installed from Floopy that MSI sends out with the MOBO's.

The Drivers can be Downloaded from here:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/d ... HIP=4&ID=1

Not sure if I'm on the same page but I hope it helps.

My Motherboard is PT880 Neo Series MSI Board KT6 Delta Series. Sorry I didn't have the info at the time. I think I found the problem over the weekend. I havn't tried another driver yet, but I think Western Digital gave me the wrong driver. My Manual tells me that this is the file I should enter when I press F6 "VIA VT6420/VT8237 disk driver". I looked all over the Western digital site and MSI site before and never found the driver. If you could help me find this driver also this may fix the problem.

Thanks
I just went to the site and found this driver.
VIA PIDE SATA RAID Drivers Utility Support model VIA VT8237 based SB chipset
I downloaded the file VIA_IDE_Drivers70.zip. I am at work so I will let you know if it works tomarrow. Wish me luck.

Hi Quantum

Did you format the drive first?

I used fdisk repartitioned and then reformated. I am pretty sure it is the driver now because windows 98 install disk saw the drive with no problem.
