I downloaded the ATI download utility and ran it to get a report on the ATI ID etc but i found that i could not submit an error report to ATI because of a modification made to ATI graphic cards on laptops - the ATI website refers me on to (Toshiba) the manufacturer.

So it was a useful exercise but has not solved my problem yet.

Does your system meet the requirements needed to play Sims 2?

Do you have any yellow :?: in the Device Manager?

Did you gather any information about your Radeon ATI graphics.

No :?: in device manager and not quite sure what minimum spec is for sims 2 but this problem happened when browsing internet.

I have a report generated from the ATI utility that was suggested which just details the device id , version etc It does not say if the driver is corrupt or if there is an update. I did the driverguide toolkit which searched for updates and it gave no new drivers found.

Is the graphics card inbuilt with the laptop meaning i can't just buy a new graphics card?

Normally yes laptops have onboard video.
Make sure that your Operating System and Internet Explorer are up-to-date by visiting the and downloading all of the Critical Updates and Service Packs.

You could try Uninstalling Sims 2. It may or may not solve your problem. If you do don't forget to backup your saved games if you have any!

ATI Mobile Graphics products in notebooks
Display drivers and multimedia applications for notebooks with ATI graphics solutions are available for download from your Notebook manufacturer.

On the ATI link that you kindly gave it quotes" For your convenience, a list of links to notebook manufacturers is available in the ATI Onboard section of our website.

The display driver supplied with a given notebook has been customized for:

the built-in flat panel display
any other graphics or video options installed in that specific computer.
As a result of these customizations, ATI Customer Care is unable to offer drivers for notebooks.

We recommend that you:
use the driver supplied with your notebook computer, or,
obtain a driver update from the manufacturer of your notebook computer
"
and when i visit the Toshiba website i can find no latest drivers.

I will be uninstalling Sims 2 in a few days as i am getting my daughter a better pc for her birthday so will see if that helps.

I honestly think Sims 2 is not compatible with your laptop.

Windows Update Site will sometimes give you updated drivers for your devices.

Good luck :)
