Sapphire Ati Radeon 9200 Se - problems!!

Postby Stonka2004 » Wed Nov 03, 2004 9:10 pm

I recently installed an Sapphire ATI Radeon 9200 se graphics card on my friends pc so he could play 'Microsoft Halo' as his old graphics card is built into his motehrboard and not very good so he was unable to play it.
He is now able to play the game and everything was fine until the computer suddenly shut down, and keeps doin so every time he turns it on, the card isnt over heating as he has a house fan blowin tornado style winds into his case and the heat sink is very cool, so i have removed the graphics card and he is currently still using his old one until we can sort this problem out, the motherboard he has is an Apollo one i think, and the graphics card he is currently using is a S3 Prosavage [hens the reason why he cant play games].
I was thinking it could maybe be something to do with the power supply as my friends power supply box is only 300w, if anyone can help please reply, thank you!!

Hi Stonka2004 Image

So if he is still experiencing shut downs even after you uninstalled the graphics card that was a good way to rule that out. You may need to do the same with the PSU.

But first take some canned air and blow out all the fans inside the case. That would be the CPU fan, PSU fan and any other case fans he has in there. If he is still experiencing the shutdowns, swap the PSU with a known working one and that should tell you right away if its the problem.
I wouldn't rule out the CPU, although you stated the heat sink is cool doesn't necessarily mean its not on its way out.
Hope this helped

It IS a 9200, that series I have heard of a few of them burning up and being faulty. Also check your Voltage of the AGP Slot on his Motherboard. Also, the card may be 8X, but maybe the Motherboard only supports up to 4 and runs a older voltage rating? If it was the Voltage thing it probably would have fried it by now, but it's all worth a shot!
