Is the Status Bar turned on in IE? If not turn it on. After you set the Status Bar in Windows Explorer to be on go to Tools/Folder Options/View and click on the Apply to All Folders.

To keep the Explorer window the same size after you re-size it go to: File / Close. Now when you open Windows Explorer it should be the correct size.
As for the thumbnails.... don't think you can change their size. Have you tried Right Clicking one and choosing "Preview"? This should open the pic in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and you can scroll to every picture in that folder. brad

Ok, we have a success with the Status Bar! Thanks. One nag gone.

Only a partial ok on the re-size. It opens up to almost the right size. It seems it wants to shrink back a little. I'll pull it open a little more and see if I can get a happy medium.

I know about the Windows viewer. What I'm trying to do is crush a few more previews into the window. If I could reduce the size of these thumbnails by just ten or so pixels it would be wonderful. There must be a setting for these somewhere!

BACK-UP THE REGISTRY FIRST
To change the size of the thumbnails that are used in Windows Explorer's thumbnail view:

Start the Registry Editor
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \
Right-click an empty space in the right pane and select New > DWORD
Name the new value ThumbnailSize
Double-click this new value, and enter a value between 32 and 96 (hexadecimal)*
Close the registry editor
*) There have been information that the value can go up to 256 (hexadecimal), but I have not been able to set this value over 96 on my system. Frankly I doubt if higher values are indeed possible: 96 hex is already 150 (pixels) decimal. A thumbnail of 256 hex would be 598 pixels wide!

To return to the default, just delete the ThumbnailSize value.

The registry hack above will change the settings for the current user only. To change them for all users, add the key to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ (you'll need administrative privileges to do this).

Had to come back to the window width. Seems it doesn't want to play ball with that one. It defaults to four thumbnails previews across the top, as ever. Just wondering. If you change the size of the previews will the window remain the default size or will it shrink to fit four thumbnails again?
