Laptop is switching off!

Postby Halfynailz » Fri Nov 26, 2004 11:33 pm

I have a Time Traveller AR XP2600 laptop, and recently it is starting to just switch itself off if left idle for 10 minutes or so, and occasionally when i am still using it, but its not shutting down properly, its just tripping out, like the power is getting switched off. I thought maybe it was a software glitch or virus, but as a last resort, i formatted the hard drive, and reinstalled back to factory settings, using the reload CDS, but the problem is still occuring. does anyone have any idea what may be causing this? :?:

I assume you've checked the power settings in control panel?

I agree with Restek check your power settings. If your settings are ok,does it seem to make a difference when your on battery power or AC?

Yes, i have tried the power settings in control panel. I actually think its some sort of problem with over heating, or when the proccessor is getting over used, the reason it switches off when im not using it seems to be when a 3d matrix screensaver kicks in or another one, which seems to require alot of proccessing power to generate the graphics, i'm guessing this because the fan on the laptop seems to go into over drive. If i disable those screensavers, chances are it doesnt switch off. Just find it annoying that i have a laptop that overheats so easily! thanks for your help though!

You might want to consider a docking station or cooling pad.I've seen several cooling pads that offer multiple fans which should help. What is your system specs?
