Dual monitor problem....

Postby Junior_co » Tue Nov 30, 2004 5:06 am

OK, here is a good one....

I am having trouble getting both monitors to work.... I start the computer, and the boot up information comes up on both monitors, but as soon as the log on screen comes up one monitor shuts off....

I remember having this problem a long while back when I first went to a two monitor system, and I remember the fix being kinda simple...

Now the big part of the problem....

The monitor that goes black is the primary monitor. This means that the start menu and any properties boxes that open up, (and even the user accounts boxes) come up on the blank monitor. This makes it very difficult to log in to an account, but impossible to try and switch settings around....

It is a gainword video card with dual outputs
Windows xp....

What do ya think I should do??

Once windows has started right click on a blank part of the desktop & select properties. Under the settings tab you will see 2 monitors. Click on the one you want as the primary, and select 'use this as my primary monitor. Click the other & select 'extend my desktop onto this monitor, Then click & drag the 2 monitors around so that they match the physical arrangement of the 2 screens :)

Yea, I would have done that but, when I clicked on properties the properties box came up on the blank screen.

I eneded up starting windows in safe mode and uninstalling the driver for the video card, rebooting and it started up.

Thanks for the help though....
