IE crashes when viewing certain web pages.

Postby richardjdr » Sat Dec 04, 2004 7:04 am

My internet explorer seems to crash everytime i view certain web pages. Especially when viewing certain blog sites (www.myspace.com and www.xanga.com) that contain music codes in the background?
I've Googled this problem and it had a result of an older thread on this site.

I dont beleive it ever got solved. I have the same errors that the person had.

C:\DOCUME~1\Richard\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER8.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt

Please help me with this annoyance. Thank you in advance.

If they are sites you have visited before ..and they worked fine.. then it may help to clear out your temp files etc

Tools -> internet options -> delete files

You may already have tried this :)

Heh, yup. I've tried clearing all the temp files, cookies, and history. It could be a problem with Windows Media Player but im not sure. I've upgraded media player to the latest one but it still has that problem. Im lost :?:

Have you tried downloading another media player and configuring it to play audio and seeing if that works ?

Well there is a bunch of patches for IE that you lack. I would do a windows update.

And are you running the latest version of WMP?

I dont beleive that's the problem.. Just recently i uninstalled all the updates that i did to my internet explorer because i thought that it was the problem (it started happening after i installed IE's updates). But it didnt seem to solve anything. And just recently i did download and install the newest MWP.

My buddy had a problem once when he got a new video card and tried to play certain games, and he had the same error message you're getting.

Have you recently installed a new video or sound card? If so, you need to go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers.

Also, go to Start>Control Panel and open "System". Click on the "Hardware" tab, then click on Device Manager. You could have some devices conflicting with each other. Click on the + signs next to each catergory, and if you see any exclamation points or question marks next to anything, then something is wrong.

Just a suggestion.
