Should I update to SP2?

Postby Dave_Lethal » Fri Dec 10, 2004 11:35 pm

I hear a lot of people saying that SP2 sucks, and I should not get it. But it seems like I need it for the security patches and things like that...

Is it worth getting? Or am I going to regret it once I get it? If I can get away having just SP1, that would be great. Any suggestions?

I ended up giving in and getting it. I turned off the firewall and I have had zero problems. :)

If you get SP2 it has a safety feature for downloading. You will have to set your browser to accept downloads. On sites like: Download.com where the download begins automtically, with SP2, the automatic downloads dont start. Its really up to you.

I just don't want to get it if it's going to be more trouble than it's worth. But I was thinking about giving it a shot.... :dunce:

well let me step in on this one.

#1 if you dont have sp2 and some good security on your machine you mid as well reformat your harddrive .

#2  haha ... well it isnt quite like that but lets put it this way every single advantage you can get over the latest spyware / virus's / browserhijacks / EXT EXT you should take it.

#3 #2 is exactly what my latest project is all about

I think I'm going to have to reformat soon anyway :( My PC is bordering on useless.

When I do reformat, I'm going to get SP2, and probably Firefox browser instead of IE, although I've used IE as long as I can remember, it's going to be strange being on a new browser. But I hear Firefox is a lot better anyway.

I use FireFox and ill tell you what! Its really cool. The built in po-up blocker blocks more pop-ups than STOPZilla did, and that was with the full version. FireFox is grade web browser in my book.

Well I updated to SP2, and so far so good. The only thing that annoys me is how slow my PC seems to start up now, but other than that it works like a charm :)
