Web design and Adobe Golive

I have a small website up and running. I would like to include links so that users would be able to dl files they need. So by clicking on the link, a small window would pop up (windows style) asking to save file and etc.....like we see so much on websites.

Now here is the setup. My website is hosted on my internet provider server, which i build with Adobe Golive.

I have a second machine that would act as a file server,so when a user clicks on a file to dl, he would get it from my server,since my hosting slot is only 5megs in size max.

Question.

Is this feasable or im just dreaming.?

How can i in Golive or other means to have a windows type window pop up with the typical download message. Cause if i apply just a regular link, the user will end up in my sever with files to choose from instead of having it automatically dl .

Is this clear enough?.

Well. The nice thing about WYSIWYG software is that you dont have to worry much about coding and may be time saving. On the other hand, it is a sort of handicap. Can't have it all.

On my text saying dl, i have a link to a URL which is my server,and thats what it does, redirect me to my server which is not i want.

If i try this <a href=servername/filename>File</a> It doesnt not work.
But this ]<a href=servername/</a> works!.

So i think this is the wrong approach. I need some type of action in Golive or this can be done by some other coding .Dunno.

Have you tried this?

Are you using a ftp server as the file server?
What type of file extension are your trying to download?
This might have to do with setting the MIME types on the ISP server. The server needs to know what to do with a file that has the extension that you are trying to download. You'll need to check the documentation for your particular Web server to find out how to add a MIME type.
It is usually a pretty straightforward operation

Also, are you including the file extension in the link?

I did what you said and it seems to work.

All i need is to type the url with the filename and extension.
