Limp - the tray works fine in safe mode.... does that mean there is a conflict somewhere ?

Well its most likely a software problem then. Have you installed any new stuff like burning software?.

I've only updated the one I use most... other than that nope.

Would it need to be something that loaded at startup though? None of my burning software does.

No I haven't got Roxio.

I haven't got a clue what kind of drive it is... tell me how to find out and I'll have a look. I have SiSandra and Everest.

Is it a burner? Also hit ctrl-alt-del and look under the processes tab for DirectCD.exe. If its there try to end process on it and then check to see if your drive works.
