compaq m700 battery

compaq m700 battery will not charge?

about 5 weeks ago ,i replaced the dying battery on my m700,now the new battery seems to have died,the battery icon has a red cross through it,saying,( power state)online critical,it works fine on the a/c power lead,is the new battery faulty? or has the charger gone? any help would be greatly appreciated.

How long did you have the new battery before it quit charging?

I used the battery for 4 weeks, the battery was brand new and it worked fine, but sometimes after a bit it would'nt turn on when it should do,i don't know weather the battery was gradualy dieing but after 4 weeks the laptop would'nt turn on attal, i left it for a bit then when i wanted to use it the battery none of the lights were on, i tried to turn it on,it wouldn't turn on i thought that this was a power problem,after a few days of continual messing and thinking how to get it to work, it suddenly turned on, then no light came on for the battery to charge, i looked on the power icon in the task bar thats when it said:- status online,critical it would'nt charge and still will not charge to this day, any help??? any help will be much apreciated.
