Lets see if you have a nic.

go to Start-->Run--> and type in CMD

this will bring up a DOS screen.

At the prompt type in "ping 127 .0.0.1" without the quotes and hit enter. you should get 4 returns, if you don't , the NIC (network card) isn't working or not set up right.

- Thank you so much to everyone who replied to me!
I phoned the people who manafacture the Router after I typed my plea for help, they said I needed an Ethernet card/adaptor and as I presumed I didn't have one, went and bought one, luckily it was only €6. I installed it and still had problems, (sob) and eventually found I needed to lower my security settings to allow the Router to work? I think that's what I did anyway! lol
I still have a question mark next to Ethernet Controller when I look on Device Manager - and I have tried to update or install drivers but to no avail. HOWEVER I DO now have a Network Adaptor icon which I didn't before... so I am presuming I did right by buying a network card as I didn't have one! and now I daren't ever touch my PC again, ha ha.
Anyway.. I guess this isn't much use to anyone who has the same problem, but wanted to post back and thank the people who so kindly replied to me. This is a great site! Cheers...
