multiple windows installations

Postby vexing000 » Wed Oct 22, 2003 10:20 pm

:| okay this is a really weird situation, but basically what happend is my windows locked up on the welcome screen, so i booted in run mode (not safe mode, the one with the dos commands) and i ran the setup of my windows XP cd through that. I installed a whole different installation of XP into a new folder (windows2/) because i wanted to preserve what was still on my hard drive from the first copy (which is why i didn't format).

So this worked fine, however now when i log on it asks me to select the OS i want to use. The new one is okay, and the old one still locked up, so I deleted the old /Windows/ file (corresponding to the locked up version). Hoping that it wouldn't ask me to select which OS at bootup.

This really isn't that much of a problem, since it automatically selects the working OS, it just counts down from 30 to make my selection otherwise (this happens in bootup)

If there's any way to get rid of this, or make it automatically select the new OS (the only one now) can anyone please tell me how? Maybe its a startup option or something. Any kind of help is appreciated, thanks everyone.

You can also change the default of 30 seconds on the same page that is referred to in the article that brad posted.
