why everything installs now on my D drive not C..

Postby hue_jass » Sat Jan 08, 2005 7:55 am

SO i got a nasty hacker the other day that cracked into my harddrive, and messed up my WinSock 2.0 so that i couldn't access the interenet, my ISP couldnt fix it and I just said "screw it" and so i did a clean install of WinXP professional. Um so yea just installing programs now to get back to where I was before and I noticed that it keeps extracting files and installing programs to my D drive, which is only 2 gb and holds supposedly what is "system sav" ..... ummmm my 60gb drive is drive C and so i was wondering what is wrong. I followed all steps correctly to reinstall my computer but now its acting all weird and like for my divx movies it would install divx to Drive D not drive C

~hope u can help, stuck outta luck

What might have started you to where you are at now, is installing an O/S with a second hard drive hooked up.

On any install remove the secondary hard drive, the printer and any usb devices. Once you have the system running, shut down and load up the extras to the system.

A real irritating thing if you have a Dell, they still use cable select on their hard drives. Its easy to get your drives mixed up and completely wipe a data drive. The cable select they use is backasswards from real cable select (there is a square hole punched in the ide cable).
