Problem installing a new Graphics Accelerator! (WinXP-Pro)

Postby HMMS » Sun Jan 09, 2005 4:15 am

I'll try to explain this situation the better i know...
I have a new Graphics (ATI Radeon 9550) and unistalled old card drivers (a GeForce 2) . Then I shut down computer and inserted the new graphics, but when i turned on PC, the windows do not loaded and then an error blue box appeared with the error "STOP : 00000X00000..." (something like this) or DRIVER_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (something like this). So, I tried to enter in safe mode with several different options (network support...vga, etc), but or computer restarts unexpectedly or the blue screen appears. Then I decided to format the computer and install windows again, so i created two partitions (C:, D) on disk and installed windows on C:. Then the windows begin to install...but then again the blue windows appeared(!!). So i went to BIOS and put everything by DEFAULT and started new windows installation....and then again the error loaded. Then i inserted my old Grapics (GeForce 2) and tried to install windows and this time no errors and windows installed OK. So, I'd inserted my new graphics in other computer i have in home, and the windows loaded with my new graphics with no problem(!!).....Anyone please can help me out? I dont know what i can do more!

PS: sorry 4 my english.
Thx.

You might just have a bad video card.

Bad video memory can cause a blue screen. The ATI is a pretty good card--I'd return it for another and see if it blue screens.

The card might function in a slower machine, only because its not being worked very hard.

So Icecube, you are saying that my graphics might be damaged in memory and that is what make my pc crash or restart? but i dont understand how that graphics run good in the other pc in my house that is older....and in my real pc that is recent it wont work...
Gecko you say : "I had to do this on my system before my ATI card would be usable".
Your problem was identical to mine? How i update BIOS?

Thx 4 trying to help!

It's called flashing your BIOS, it's not that hard.
Just so we can see if there is an update,
what is the make and model number of your motherboard?

My motherboard is a ASUS (X-series) A7V8X-X...
My ASUSUpdate program tells me that:
-Version: ASUS A7V8X-X ACPI BIOS Revision 1008
-Chipset: VT8477/VT8235
-Date: 12/29/2003
-Onboard Sound: AC97(swa)
-Onboard Lan: Exist(wl)
-BIOS Size: 256k
-Bios Type: Award
In that program, i'd selected "Download Bios from the internet"...and then after that, one option appeared like "select BIOS from combo box:" and the options:
Revision 1003, 1004, 1005....all them older revisions (?!)....just for curiosity i selected the 1005(05/12/2003)....and then i got one message like: "Warning! the date of BIOS Image is later than current one, please flash the BIOS using ASUS Dos Utility if u still wnat to do this."....This means i have the most recent Bios? If yes, why the revision 1008 (the one that i have) do not was an option like 1003, 1004,1005? Maybe my Bios is a "strange" Bios?
