HD prislave problem

Postby badpolarbear » Mon Jan 10, 2005 5:30 pm

I got a used Western Digital 40 gig hard drive yesterday. I installed it made sure my master jumper was set to master, and slave was set on the WD400. When I boot up the pc Im getting an error. Prislave Drive Atapi Incompatable.Press F1 to resume..

I should mention with the IDE cable I have one end into the MoBo, the very end of the cable is conected to the master and the slave is connected to the middle connector.

HELP!

Try setting them both to Cable select
or try a different ribbon cable.

Thanks Gecko for that advice, did that before. I found the answer. Had to go into bios C-MOS settings. The slave was set to CD-ROM and master was set to USER. Changed them both to AUTO. But now I have something going on I dont like. When I boot up I have to make a choice which O/S I want to boot with. How do I make it so it auto boots to my master?

re O/S

Postby badpolarbear » Tue Jan 11, 2005 2:29 am

Ok Gecko, I followed the first part of the steps you said. When I looked for the default O/S there was two in the drop down box and they were both Windows XP Pro. Now when I boot there is two XP Pro lines that I have a choice of booting from and I have to down arrow to the bottom one to boot from my master. So when I went where you said , clicked on the down arrow and the box dropped down I set it to the second XP Pro. Would that be correct? Since when I boot I have to drop the line using the down arrow and then hit enter to boot to master. Is that clear enough?.

There is a differance in the two, you just have to look closer it will show what
disk and partition it is on.

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional
multi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional
