DVD rom expert needed..also question on wireless internet

Postby cheekycritter » Wed Jan 12, 2005 12:29 am

Hi,

I recently got a new pc with a DVD ROM drive LITE-On COMBO SOHC-5232K.
I had played many normal DVDs but when my friend gave me a DVD r with some home movies he had made at first about 6 time it played the DVD-R perfectly. Now I put it in the drive and windows media crashes so does power DVD 6. I am so confused because I can’t see what I have done.

The only thing it be is using a program called registry mechanic to remove some junk from the registry it could have recently messed it up?.--- and no I don’t have a back up of the registry data.

It plays fine on my friends laptop and he was a DVD rom drive also.

Unusually I quickly tryed WINAMP and loaded the DVD but it was useless as when I clicked with the mouse to play DVD on the menu it just maximizes the screen. I lost patience and uninstalled it. I prefer windows media player but at the moment it is annoying me,.

I have restated media player and rolled back for version 10 to 9 and upgraded the firmware on my DVD rom drive and still it freezes the whole comp.

Please help thanx lots

P.S this not as important but if anyone knows a quick fix to this I would be grateful.
My wires internet on my desktop makes the speaker sound jump and this sometime effects the video. It only seems to do it sometimes probably when it is commutating with the router. Is there away to stop wireless inference with sound.? It is ok as in games it does not really affect it at all it just annoying to have to turn of the internet every time you want to play some tunes.---Don’t worry about this as much the DVD rom drive is move important…the sound is only really badly effected with mp3s by the way.

hmm, maybe try moving the card to a different pci slot? I had a problem like this before but I did a wire check and cleaned it up and it went away, it was from the cathodes heh.

Sounds more like registry mechanic or something else has deleted something you needed... try doing a system restore to before you started using it.. see if that solves the problem..

as for the noise over your speakers.. try re-routing the speaker cables as far away from other cables.. including power cables and so on.. or alternatively.. get shilelded speakers with shielded cables.. that should stop it :)

Thanxs…

The sound is probably not anything to do with the PCI slot as I had the same problem with the onboard sound when I enabled that to see if it was better.
I think I will try buying better speakers and moving the cables away from the speakers as much as possible is the answer.

Also for the windows media player you said system restore as this is a really new computer I have not backed any data up knowingly. Can you tell me what to do there…. do you mean just reinstall windows from the disc…btw If I do that will it ask me again to activate it as I have OEM license I got cheaply and I can only use it once.
Is there some windows restore on XP built in. Sorry I am such a newbie at XP I have used Linux and Win 98 and only started with XP recently.

Or if I cant system restore. Is there anyway of putting in lost data back in the registry?

Cheers Guys…

You lot know your stuff…:-)
