unique problem?

Postby carpet_thighs » Tue Oct 28, 2003 10:13 am

i dunno if this is the right forum for this but here i go...

when i give power to my computer, it turns on automatically for some reason. it doesnt boot, it just turns on and whirrs. no dos, no loading nothing. just a monitor self test. the green and red lights come on and stay on. when i turn off the computer by cutting the power from the powerbar or the swtich on the back, it shuts off. then i turn the powerbar or switch back on and it comes right back on. the normal shut down and restart buttons on the front of the tower do nothing.

HELP! :(

the fan starts up automatically, but it doesnt beep. the fan just starts up and the red and green lights come on and stay on. and the monitor self test comes on and stays on.

i have used the same power supply and on off switch for years, they've been fine before? what could have triggered this? and how would i go about replacing them? could i just use a different powerbar? what about the on off switch

thanks for the help :D

ok: turns out a friend was on the comp a few days ago. he tried to turn on the comp with the startup button on the front of the tower, but realized the powerbar was off, then he turned the powerbar on and now its got the problems. i've never done that before, so maybe thats a likely cause?

Just a thought.... Have you tried Shutting Down the computer via the Start / Shutdown button and then tried rebooting? Also, if you're tring to shutdown via the Power button are you pressing and holding it until it shuts down? brad
