This is a true story.
Back in the mid to late 70's some friends and I commonly went ice fishing in the winter. Before the season started, usually in the fall we built what we call fish huts. They are little cabins that we put on the lake to stay warm. There were often small communities of huts on the ice. Once the hut was placed in the desired position on the lake a chiansaw was brought in to cut a hole in the ice. The hut was normally about 12 foot square so the hole cut was about 3 feet wide and about 8 feet long.
Bernie, a friend came out to the hut on a regular basis and brought his dog, Bufford, a black lab with him. One day Bernie caught a walleye and was pulling it up through the ice. He lifted the fish out and was holding it about 3 feet above the hole. The fish gave a flops and came off the hook. It feel to the floor, did a couple more flops and fell back in the hole. Bufford took great interest in this and decided to follow the fish.
Needless to say there was a great sense of panic all of a sudden because Bufford was under the ice. About 30 seconds later we heard a roar come from the hut about 25 feet away from us and 3 men came running out of their hut. Well didnt Bufford swin under the ice and come up through the hole in the hut next to us.
