Difference?

Postby Tank » Tue Jan 25, 2005 12:17 am

Hey everyone. Well tonight I am doing my 2nd build! A friend of mine bought a system today and I am putting it together for him tonight.

Here's the thing.

My system and first build, as you all know, was AMD, he however bought the Intel Pentium 4 at 3.0GHZ (Socket 478)

Now I notice that the core of the CPU is not exposed like a little rectangle like Athlon is. What difference does this make when applying Gel to the CPU?? How and where would you do it? Just all over the backside??

I was told to just but a bead the size of a half grain of rice over the little thing that touches the heatsink. After applying it smear it a little and you should be fine.

Well got it put together. Last night during the build, we put the H.D.D LED (the lil light that flashes on the front of the case when the HD is busy), we put this on backwards. We also put the front USB hookups on backwards. We realized this when we had just finished and closed up the case. I didn't think it would make a big deal, so we went ahead and installed windows xp pro anyway. Well it got through the installation the first time, but after that, it refused to recognize the hard drive! sometimes it would recognize it, and i tried to boot from it, and it would give me one beep, and sit there and just nothing would happen. When I tried booting from the CD again, it loaded up the "windows repair" tool. So I tried it, did not work. We also reformatted the hard drive, tried to install again, didnt work. When we tried to install that time it came up with a blue screen with white writing that said "The installation has been shutdown to protect damage from happening to your computer", then about half way down the page, there was a whole bunch of numbers, mostly 00000000000's. Any idea what this is? I am guessing the Hard Drive is hooched? Oh yea, and when we boo it up, it takes FOREVER for it to recognize the devices on the IDE cables!!!! It's a P4 at 3.0GHZ, it should not take forever. Any ideas?? Thanks everyone!

By the way, after the first attempt of install failed, we did fix the H.D.D LED and the USB problems, so they are correct now, and it still would not work
