Delay in Enabling LAN

Postby patkim » Mon Feb 28, 2005 10:53 am

My PC is on a Cable Modem Internet connection through LAN Card.
I find that when the XP Pro starts it takes some noticeable time to enable the LAN.
i.e. LAN gets enabled and you see the two computers icon in the status bar besides the clock.

During this time some part of system like Control Panel etc appear to be frozen.

If I keep LAN disabled and enable only when I want to connect, then it starts quickly.
I am not clear as to what could be causing this unusual delay in enabling LAN during XP startup.
Thanks…

It sounds like Windows is still booting up when this happens, it's normal.
Just because you can see the desktop when starting up does not mean that windows has finished booting.
Wait until all hard drive activity has stopped before trying your LAN connection.
