Disk read error

Postby GTS » Tue Mar 15, 2005 6:54 am

Hi guys
I have a small problem when I start up a pc .The machine stats are P1 133mhz
32 meg ram. I connect a 40 gig hdd and when the machine boots up it gives me an error message "A disk read error occurred. Press Alt+Ctrl+Del. to restart".
Also in the Bios the 40 Gig reads as a 8 Gig. What could possibly be the problem?
Cheers

That system is quite old--for computers, thats anything greater than 5 years

Your motherboard cannot reconize any drive bigger than8 gig.

Ontrack has a drive manager that can get around this, but I don"t recommend it.t will work, but when you upgrade, getting the data off of that disk could cost some big bucks

The other error you are getting, indicates that you need to fdisk and format the drive.
