NetWork NightMare Part II

Postby Cactus » Mon Nov 10, 2003 6:00 pm

Now that I have the Lan up and running and all Four PC's on line...
There seems to be something I'm missing...

I can put up a Dedicated Server up for UT on my PC and the IP for the server is my Routers 24.70........

But when I try to put the server up on this forth pc only the Lan can see it because the IP shows up 192.168.........

I've opened the ports on the Router for this pc but I don't seem to be getting anywhere??????

HELP!!!

I don't know why it would be different between the 2 comps, nor have I ever set up a UT server. However generally when you set up any server behind a router which does NAT, you will have to specify in the settings for that server such that it uses the correct i.p. What happens when people external to your server try to connect to your external ip to play a game? I'm assuming that if you have the UT server set up on the other comp that you have stopped it running on yours & all the port forwards for it go to the other comp?

Actually ....
I went to ADMIN page for my Router and opened the needed ports again only this time opening them with the IP of the fourth pc.

Can I open the same port from different pc's?

Better explanation:

In the router configs:
port #### IP 192.168.0.199
" #### IP 192.168.0.199
ETC....

I left those there then added these:
using the same ports but with 192.168.0.165

Which is the IP the Router spits out for this fourth pc.

So you're saying you have the same ports listed twice, and forwarded to 2 different comps? If so, you cannot do this! You need to get rid of one set of forwarding rules :)

Ok,I removed them for my pc and am forwarding for the forth.
I'm starting the server now on that pc so I'll tell you in a minute.

I removed the ports from one pc and forwarded them to the other.
Rebooted the router and tried to see the server on the public side...no go.

I forwared the ports back to my pc and the server is public!!!

it has to be some setting or adapter I'm missing in the Network configs of the fourth pc??

I don't think it can be the protocol - both comps hould just be usiong TCP/IP. It must be a setting in the server itself. What happens when people try & connect to the fourth PC?

Well I only know what happens when someone on the LAN tries to connect by typing the URL in the Address Bar.
I think they should be typing the IP the server asigns to me wich is 24.**.**.***

I know the IP of the router and I know all the IP's for each individual pc.

I set the FTP server to PASSIVE MODEand set the IP to FIXED.

I can't log in,nor can anyone else on the LAN.
