Laptop Mouse

Postby Tracy » Mon Apr 18, 2005 9:24 am

My mouse is erratic, every now and again it races round the page doing its own thing, opening and closing boxes etc.

I have spyware checked using numerous checkers, same with antivirus, disabled themes to no avail, I cant find an updated driver for the mouse. So Im stuck!!

Advice on this one would be much appreciated.

(P.S If Im repeating a prior post from someone I do apologise, got fedup searching and scrolling)

Hello Tracy and welcome to Pc Techforums:

I would suggest that you download HijackThis, you can find a direct link
in the upper left of this forum under Helpful Weblinks.

Extract the download to it’s own directory and launch HijackThis
Click the “Do a system scan and save a logfile" button.
Now post the contents of the logfile here.

I dont see anything that stands out as bad. How often does this happen? Is this Laptop on a network?

I am just wondering if someone is using remote desktop to play a joke on you.

No its not on a network.

Its intermitant throughout the day.Very erratic, nothing particularly seems to spark a 'mad' moment.

Its just frustratingly annoying, you have to stop while it does its 'tasamanian devil' impression, only lasts a couple of seconds.

I saw the words "logitech" in your hijack file. The usual cause of eratic mouse behavior is the failure to install the touchpad drivers for the laptop. Another cause could be installing the drivers for a newly purchased mouse.

The touchpad is a real slow way to do anything. Check your system out, if you installed the mouse drivers, I recomend that you remove them and see if your system snaps back to normal.

If you get a mouse driver diskett with your mouse, throw it away, I haven't seen an operating system that needed mouse drivers since windows 3.1

Hope this is of some help

Logitech is the camera.

I havent installed any mouse onto to the laptop. Ive had the laptop two years August. Not done anything to the drivers, the mouse has only in the last couple of weeks started to misbehave.

My cursor drifts across the screen sometimes... I love watching it. Wonder if that's the same kind of problem.

lilpink x

....and come to think of it my cursor position changes from one end of the screen to another sometimes. But neither of these things happen to me so often that it is a problem.

If only that were the problem!!!!

Mine fires round the screen opening and closing boxes, which is a pain in the butt when it decides to close the email you happen to be writing.

 its like discussing a bad puppy!!!! (if the cursor starts leaving dribble marks I shall REALLY start to worry)

Go to your laptops website and download the latest touchpad drivers, sometimes a new Microsoft update can mess stuff up enough where your laptop manufacturer has to redo the drivers. :D

If your not sure where to go, PM me and give me the brand name of the lap top and the model number and I'll see if I can hook you up

I've been looking for a driver update without success.

Mind when I thought I had found the Driver it wouldnt download, it wanted me to upload before download, but I had nothing to upload so I gave up!!
