DDR RAM for Sempron 3100

Postby patkim » Wed Apr 20, 2005 9:37 am

Are there any specific considerations for selecting the DDR Memory Modules for AMD Sempron 3100+ processor based system? I mean any specific thing like speed, memory size, single/dual line etc etc.
Thanks..

That would actually depend more on the motherboard than the CPU. Would you happen to know what board you have?

Ok say e.g. I am referring to GA-K8VM800M mobo manual and it says
Memory
. 2 184-pin DDR DIMM sockets,supports up to 2GB DRAM (Max)
. Supports DDR400/333/266/200 DIMM
. Supports 128MB/256MB/512MB/1GB unbuffered DRAM
. Supports only 2.5V DDR DIMM

So are there any other memory specs or considerations like Single in line/ dual in line etc. Or either will work.
Thanks.

I've noticed that some of the newer boards offer dual in line memory capability. So if your going to put in one gig of memory, you don't buy a one gig chip you buy two 512's. Its suppose to access the memory modules twice as fast as the single one gig.

I'm working with one right now, the boot times are real slow, its kind of like ecc scrub memory--takes about 3 minutes to boot up. Otherwise its clean and fast.

Check your motherboard manual to see if the option is avalible

I see that the Mobo has DIMM slots 184 Pins. Now the PC2100 256 MB DDR I have, has memory bank only on one of its sides. Is this same as single in line?
The other side just has connecting lines on the PCB stick. So is this something that needs to be checked while selecting the DDR for a mobo ?

Also I see terms like 1x 2x DDR. How to intrepret this convention?
Thanks.
