Windows fail to start, occasionally.

Postby kgb8705 » Tue May 10, 2005 12:33 am

About 1 out of 5 boot-ups, Windows XP Professional fails to start. The problem started when i bought and installed a Pacific Digital Mach 16x Dual Layer Internal DVD±RW Burner with Nero OEM Suite software. The same day, I chose to intall windows SP2. I noticed the problem a few days after the intallation. I've removed SP2 to attempt to fix the problem, but it keeps coming back. Basically, I'll turn the computer on, Windows will start to load, but all of a sudden the screen goes black. It is still on power mode rather than power saving mode, but nothing happens, so I just push the resatrt button on my case. When i start up again, the black menu screen shows up telling me to chose a start-up mode (Safe-Mode, Last Known Good Configuration, etc.) I always chose start windows normally and it works fine afterwards. Ive tried running scan disk, but it says it appears to be OK and wont scan unless I type some special command which i do not know. Please help.

A little more information will help us resolve this problem for you:

What did you install first sp2 or Nero?
Also what version of Nero do you have?
Do you have the latest firmware ?
Have you check for updates?

I installed SP2 after istalling Nero. No, I have not updated firmware or nero, but could give it a try if you say it will help.

Depending on your specs, you may want to up it to a 400 or more. They are cheap enough now a days.
