Limited or no connectivity problem

Postby qoocookie » Tue May 10, 2005 7:01 pm

Any one have any idea why I'm sitting 5 feet away from my modem and I can't connect?

My computer says the signal strength is very good-excellent, but there's limited or no connectivity. My network is protected and I have the correct password/key entered.

I scanned my computer for viruses and spyware yesterday and nothing unusual showed up.

Im guessing youre using a wireless card and a wireless router? if you have windows xp SP2 installed read below. that might help

you should run the Microsoft patch (KB884020) for it. follow the instructions below to do this.

1) Download the patch below
http://www.pchell.com/downloads/SP2ConnectivityFix.zip
2) Run the update to install it

3) Run the Registry fix file FixReg.reg to complete the update.

4) restart

I installed it and restarted and I'm now in the same room as the router.

Any other ideas?

I really recommend that you try the solutions that get posted first but i wanted to add that i had the same problem on my home network and it was a faulty wireless card. Hawkings Technology was the manufactor and i was not impressed to say the least. Your card may be fine but its something to think about if all else fails.

Was this a network that was working before?
Have you configured the router at all or is everything fresh out of the box?
