System Restore no longer functions

Postby sjwbravo » Mon May 30, 2005 12:39 am

I have lost the function of system restore. I have an HP m1280n I am running Windows XP Media Center 2005. I transferred all of my data which was on my main hardrive to another hard drive. I used Western Digital Data Lifeguard, the program allowed me to set up my other hard drive as the new boot hard drive. After doing so I have not had any other problems other that when I tried to use system restore I get an error that says(Run a DLL as an APP). I accidently erased my HP recovery section on my original OS hard drive when I converted it into my new storage drive. I would appreciate any help I can get to try to fix this!

Click Start, click Run, and then type:
CMD
and press enter.
next type:
Net Start
and press enter.
Make sure that the System Restore service is up and is running.
Type:
Exit
and press enter to close the dos window

You can try running system restore from a save mode command prompt.
Reboot, after you see the BIOS screen and before Windows starts to load.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears.
Use the Arrow key to ensure that the Safe Mode command prompt only option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe Mode command prompt only.
Type the following command at a command prompt, and then press ENTER:
%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
