Problem with opening Word file (hungapp)

Postby crimson » Thu Jun 02, 2005 12:45 pm

Dear All,

lately I am having problems opening files in Word. When I try to do so (no matter whether from Open File menu in Word or just double clicking on the files in Documents), the screen remains blank, and whan after waiting for some time I try to close the window, an error message shows up, saying:

szAppName : WINWORD.EXE szAppVer : 9.0.0.2823 szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000

Could anyone please help me with this?

Just by chance do you have WinFax pro10.0 or Norton 2003 anti virus installed?

WinFax for sure not.

As for the Norton, if I remember right I had it preinstalled when I bought my laptop, but then it appeared to be that I need to start paying for it after a while, so the techie guy at my office disinstalled it and now I use Symantec Corporate Edition.

Start Norton AntiVirus.
If Norton AntiVirus is part of Norton Internet Security or Norton SystemWorks, then start that program.
Click Options.
In the left pane, click Miscellaneous.
In the right pane, under "How to keep Microsoft Office documents protected," uncheck Enable Office plug-in.
Click OK

Oh I see, sorry, didn't know that.

But it looks like the interface is different, so I don't have the "options" to click. There is File, Edit, View, Scan, Configure, Chronology and Help. The only thing that seems close would be the Configure, but under it I only have:

Protection in real time of the system files
Microsoft Exchange protection in real time

could you please tell where do I find the "miscellaneous" and the "How to keep Microsoft Office documents protected" ?

If Symantec AntiVirus is part of Symantec Internet Security or Symantec SystemWorks, then start that program.
Click Options, and then click Miscellaneous.
In the "How to keep Microsoft Office documents protected" section, uncheck Enable Office plug-in.

If you have Symantec AntiVirus 2000:
Click Start > Run now type:
CMD and press enter
At the command prompt type:
C:\Windows\System32\Regsvr32 -U C:\Program Files\Navnt\OfficeAV.dll
and press enter

If the command is successful, then you will see the following message:
DllUnregisterServer in C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\OfficeAV.dll succeeded.

Dear Gecko,

I have Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition version 8.1.0.821 with scanning engine 4.2.0.7

I do not seem to have Symantec Internet Security or Symantec SystemWorks

For sure, I do not have °options° to click on and neither °miscellaneous°, or at least I do not seem to find it anywhere

The way to do the trick through °run° didn't work as well
