Static coming over speakers?

Postby TedS » Thu May 26, 2005 7:05 am

I have a Dell Dimension 4100 with Harman/Kardon speaker sticks and a subwoofer, and I've been having some unprecedented problems over the last few days. I have static coming over my speakers that sounds like an untuned radio -- it comes and goes and is sometimes accompanied by louder, intermittent pops. When I'm playing music on the speakers, it often cuts out as if the CD were skipping, and the same static is sometimes audible.

Anyone have some insight as to what the problem might be or how I can go about remedying it? Thanks in advance...

There are three things I can think of.

Tripping over the wires can mess them up to where they "kind of work." The wires are fragile and are easy to break.

Another item that can cause interference is a ballast from a neon light. They throw out a lot of emf radiation that could mess things up if the speakers are close to the incadessent lite.

Sound cards do go bad--its about $8 to replace one
