Block domains (PLEASE CHECK CODE)

Postby o0obrian0o0 » Wed Jun 08, 2005 4:28 pm

Create a new sub-key for each site you want to block, naming it based on the top-level domain for the site. For example to block www.restricted.com you would create a new sub-key called:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains\restricted.com]

Under the sub-key create a new DWORD value called "*" and set it to equal "4".

that is what is stated from http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php?id=1013

So does that mean to code that it would look like this???? (Batch file)

REG ADD "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains\1clickspyclean.com" /v * /t REG_DWORD /d 4 /f

Or does the * mean something like WILDCARD?? and need to be specified like HTTP or something? ... Also .... by using that method will that also block any secondary site pages... like for example 1clickspyclean.com/download.htm (POSTED WITHOUT HTTP BECAUSE THAT IS A DIRECT LINK TO SPYWARE)!!!! DO NOT VISIT

UPDATE! I think that code is correct with the exception of one thing... change HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to HKEY_CURRENT_USER. :) for user-by-user basis

if someone could confirm that this is correct i would highly appriciate it!

You don't really have to mess with the registry ---Just your host file

This link shows how to redirecet access to ip 127.0.0.1 (your machine)

paste this line into your host file

127.0.0.1 www.restricted.com

Your machine will do nothing

Here's a link with more info

Usually maleware will disable your virus updates by 127.0.0.1'ing all of your virus update web sites.

This example shows how spyware disables the coolsearch web site.

The host file is in the windows\system32\drivers\etc directory
