Quick question about RAM.

Postby Travk2005 » Mon Jun 13, 2005 8:55 am

Ok I have VIA AM37 Socket A mobo, AMD Athlon XP 2400+, and 2x 512MB PC2100 RAM. Now my question is, I want to upgrade to a new mobo and processor, like a socket 939 and a Athlon64, or any other mobo that will take a Athlon 64. Do HAVE to buy new RAM? Or will my PC2100 RAM work in different mobos for the time being until I upgrade it?

The answer will be more than likely no. Most newer motherboards have 240 pin RAM and you may well have 184. So speed wouldnt be the issue, but it simply wont fit in the socket.

Hope this helps.
