i recently bought a p4 motherboard which houses four 184 pin ddr sdram modules up 2 4 gig anyway im puttin 2 frm the motherboard im usin now thats 512 yeah leavin 2 spaces in a couple weeks when iget my 3ghz prescott im planin 2 buy another 768 ram 2 modules this is where im stuck can i put 3 256 modules an a 512 module all in at once or have they got 2 all match?

ps coz aint got the money yet i'll be havin 2 use a geforce 5200 wid 128 ddr

could u tell me if this sounds like a good system seing as im movin frm a celeron prescott 2.4 512 ram an da geforce an even though i tweaked 2 get complte low res doom running smooth i really wanna play it the way its meant 2 be i mean i know the graphics card can make it look good but it needs 2 run smooth as well il only be keepin the card til the end of the year when ill get a really good 1

P4 3,0ghz prescott 1,280 ddr 333 memory geforce 5200 128 ddr sound ok?

There isn't a cut and dry answer

here is a link to read on dual channel memory which should be on your board.

Two identical 256 sticks will run just as fast as 1 meg of non matching ram filling all of the slots. If your 256's match, you might want to hold off and later purchase two 512's. that will give you the equivent of 3 gig regular.

Naturally I discovered the dual channel memory motherboards a few weeks after I purchased my MB :(

i duuno though im still kinda set on gettin a 512 an a 256 4 £50 individually the 256 is £18 and the 512 is £32 so its not a price thing theres only a £6 difference but would having more memory still provide good performance ie 1 512 and 3 256's my original idea im mean would doom 3 still run good u know my processors a p4 3.0ghz prescott all this double effectiveness off ddr is it really? an would i really notice a difference using just da 1 512 dim an da rest 256'6? i mean if they wont work at all like that then boy i wont do dat ill get 4 256's? holla

Check to see if your motherboard supports dual channel memory, If it does, it would pay to have matching pairs of memory.

A pair of matching 512's with a pair of matching 256's would be the equivelent throughplut of 3 gig of non dual channel memory.

If your board doesn't support dual channel, then it doesn't really matter. If your a gamer, the double throughput is what you need to keep up with the 800 fsb
