There are several issues here that we need to seperate.

There is the windows fdisk.exe command. This command is used to create a partition or partitions on your hard drive.

Then after you partition the drive and reboot, you would use the format.com to format
each partition seperatly.

The format command will wipe data off of the partition.

You can remove partitions using fdisk.exe in the dos mode--it ok to run the program item 4 on the menu will display hd configuration. If you remove the partitions, you have effectivly destroyed the data on the drive--unless you remember how it was configured.

If you fdisk it back with its orignal settings, there is the chance that everything may pop back up into view. Which can be good or bad.

If you fdisk the drive and then format it, it's about as clean as it can get.

All of this is pretty much invisible if you boot with an XP cd or windows 2000--from there it gets a little more complex with the option of fat32 or NTFS file systems. The cd will format the drive to your specifications.

If you've deleted a bunch of files and are worried that someone can restore them, and it was sensitive data, just empty the recycle bin and defrag the drive
