Postby MikeL » Sat Aug 20, 2005 8:06 am

I was planning on doing little side jobs, repairing and upgrading PC's. Someone recommended buying some Diagnostic tools. Does anyone here use them if so tell me what you think about these

1.Micro 2000 Diagnostic toolkit
2. Ultra-X professional Kit
3. PC-check by Eurosoft
4.TuffTest Pro & BCM Diagnostic Pro.

If you use something else please share.

Here is a short list of what you will need:
Diagnostics
Everest
Memtest86
Maxtor’s MaxBlast
Western Digital’s Data Lifeguard Diagnostics
IBM’s Diagnostics tools
If you can get a copy of Hiren's boot cd it has all this and much more. :)

Virus and Spyware
Ad-aware
Spybot
HijackThis
Killbox
DllCompare
MS Antispyware
Make a Norton A/V bootable CD and keep the definitions up to date.

add this stuff to Gecko's list

You'll need a program call Magic Jelly bean, to get the product key off of the computer being repaired. Most of my clients haven't got the foggiest of where they put their product key  .

If its fat32 there is a program called "diag" that might be on www.bootdisk.com. that will pull the product key from a dos floppy boot.

Most of the hard drive manufactures have a floppy boot hard drive test disk--should be a free download.

Norton Utilities 2005 (run from the cd) is good cleaner upper as is "Crapcleaner."

Install the google tool bar, its probably your most powerful resource for finding drivers and what all that you will need. Bear in mind that there are several ways to describe something. Google does a good job, but type in "miserable failure" and your first hit will be Pres George Bush , so go figure.

Download a copy of "emule," and explore the site for tools you would like to download. Many a system I've worked on, I could pull the product key and the owner no longer had the install cd :( . You might pick it up here.

A copy of Ghost 8.0 to transfer the old drive to the new drive.

And there is this

It should light your wick

Good luck
