Excuse my ignorance but what is the difference between a 3.0Ghz Pentium Celeron and a 3.0Ghz Pentium 4?

Quite a bit actually and they are divided mostly by FSB speed and cache size.

Celeron
Product Info:
Specification
Mfr Part Number: BX80547RE3066C
Process Type: Intel Celeron 345J
Frequence: 3.06GHz
FSB: 533MHz
L2 Cache: 256KB

Process: 90 nm
Socket: 775 pin PLGA

P4
Product Info:
Specifications
Mfr Part Number: RK80546PG0801M
Intel P4 Processor
Frequence: 3 GHz
FSB: 800 MHz
Process: 90 nm
L2 Cache: 1 MB
Thermal Design Power: 103 watts

The P4 will be quite a bit faster and it does cost a bit more.
