Bad CPU or noncompatible motherboard

Postby acemillion » Tue Sep 06, 2005 9:10 pm

Hello,
I just upgraded my computer from a P4 1.7 to a 2.4a CPU. I have an Abit sd7-533 motherboard and now all my computer does is turn on and run the fans. The hard drives do not post and I cant get into the bios setup. Can someone give me some ideas to fix it. Unfortunatly, the place which I bought the CPU wont let me return it.

I am not sure that your motherboard supports the faster cpu. I am on a modem and downloading the manual for your board isn't my cup of tea.

If you have the manual or can see a jumper that says "reset cmos." Move the jumper to reset the cmos and put it back. It might just boot. Sometimes an initial boot sequence for the motherboard will lock the cpu settings. This is a safty feature. You have to clear the cmos to get it to initialize the sequence again.

If you get it up and running, PM me if you want to sell the 1.7 P4
