AGP Driver Issues

Postby Rammy » Sat Oct 08, 2005 4:29 pm

New to the forum, hate to introduce myself like this, but here goes;

I just replaced my AGP ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB DDR under warranty, and the new card is the same model, but a newer onboard bios. The new card confilicts with the old AGP driver in my motherboard. I know I need to update the AGP driver, but I am having quite a bit of trouble doing so. I have installed several "infinst" files from intel's website for my motherboard, and none of them ever update the driver on the AGP controller. The conflict causes all kinds of corruption, and the worst part; I haven't been able to play DoD Source yet! If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated. I am pretty handy with computers, and I built this one myself. I haven't ever run into a problem I couldn't solve, until now.

The specs of the machine are as follows;

Tyan Trinity i845ddr motherboard (Intel 845 chipset)
Intel Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz Processor
1GB DDR PC-3200 Geil RAM
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro AGP 128MB DDR
Creative Soundblaster Audigy Gamer
Maxtor Ultra 200GB

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. I'm basically to the point of throwing money at this darn thing to make the problem go away.

On a lot of newer video cards, you can go to Add and Remove Programs in the control panel and select remove the video drivers and reboot it. Then try a reinstall.

If that option is not avalible, then delete the card from device manager, and let it find it again.

What was wrong with the original video card? There could be another issue here, like a loose screw wedged under the motherboard

The problem is the AGP driver conflicts with the Video Card driver. I need an updated AGP driver for my board. Maybe I wasn't clear enough?

What is it that make you believe it is the AGP drivers?
Have you tried using the to remove the video drivers
and then install an older driver version found ?

After a lot of reading and searching I have found the only chip set update for your
Intel 845 chip set is this one:
from Intel.

I would recommend that you try the above chip set drivers first.
If that does not resolve it for you then I would try:
Using the ATI CATALYST Uninstaller to remove the video drivers.
Then try one of the older Catalyst versions like 5.8 or 5.7 from ATI’s Previous Drivers and Software section.

I've already installed that driver set. The AGP driver in it is outdated. I'm buying a new videocard, thanks for all the help.
