cable or dsl?

Postby bsxiong » Fri Oct 07, 2005 4:53 am

i have no idea where to put this topic, so move this topic to it's proper place if nessecsary. Otherwise, great!

Well, i want to know if DSL is anywhere in some area better than CABLE.

I have a friend who told me that DSL is faster becuase it doesn't share a same cable line with your neighbors. In this way, dsl is faster because if your neighboors are using cable internet too, then your internet will be slowed, but if you have dsl, it's always fast and is always at the same speed all the time and doesn't share a line with your neighbors.

is this true?

With cable internet, the fastest download that i've ever reached was near 760kb/s. What's yours? (curious )

There is another issue here called packaging.

In our area here, if you go for cable, you also have to buy the basic television package also (they can't deliver one without the other) .

Some of the Telephone packages will give you cell service and DSL together and depending on what plan you choose, they do seem somewhat cheaper.

We decided to switch our cable to just the basic, and we got billed $28 just for downsizing.

If your in a big city, cable can be slow, whereas dsl would be fast. With dsl, your 1 to 1, with cable, they can pack a lot of customers on one line.

One way to look at it, with DSL you are guarenteed a certian size slice of the pie all of the time. With cable, it fluctuates, you could get the whole pie late at night..
