Can't Install SP2 or update windows - please help

I downloaded SP2 and tried to install it but as soon as the install wizard appears a message comes up saying 'Service Pack 2 installation did not complete', and the wizard closes.

I went to the MS update website and did an express check to update windows and it told me that a software upgrade for some Windows components is required. When i clicked to install the updates, they downloaded fine, then began to install, but then a message came up saying 'The following updates were unable to be installed:
MS Windows installer 3.1
Update for Windows XP (KB898461)
Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)'

I tried all this a few times but the same thing keeps happening. Anyone got any ideas please?

Go to the Microsoft Site here;



And order the cd and run it. There could be several issues here, but this should give you an inside straight to fixing it.

It takes about 4 days to get the CD

Thanks for your reply. I'm probably being an idiot but I went to that website and can't find a CD to order.
