Mouse Freezing

Postby Dave_Lethal » Mon Oct 24, 2005 8:22 pm

I have a GE mouse, it's a regular optical mouse not a USB mouse, and every once in a while it freezes on me and I have to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to work again. This never happened to me when I had a regular mouse with a ball. It's becoming a real pain, sometimes it freezes at the worst moments and it's a pain reaching behind my tower to disconnect and reconnect my mouse all the time. Any ideas as to why this could be happening?

It could be a battery going bad (if it has them). Mice do go bad, check to see that all the pins are still on the other end of the ps 2 cord--they will function with one or two missing which isn't good.

The real problem might be with a screen saver. Also check your power settings in the o/s and the bios. I know letting the hard drive go to sleep causes major lockups with a lot of systems, I always select never with that one.

Alright I turned off hybernation, but I don't see how that could be the problem since the mouse seems to freeze while I'm actively using the comptuer? But I will see if it helps. The mouse should be ok, I've had the problem ever since I bought it and installed it. There was one point where I had to unplug it and when I plugged it back in I bent all the pins. I had to take needlenose pliers and straighten a couple pins to get the mouse back in.

I set them all to never. The mouse hasn't frozen on me yet...so we'll see if that was the issue.
