BSOD: Unmounted Boot Volume!

Postby Vapor » Wed Dec 28, 2005 5:50 am

:!: Ok i was in q4max and got an error had to reboot machine when i noticed this BSOD for the first time upon windows load. "Unmountable boot volume" ive popped in windows xp professional disk and run Repair I'm running 2 Sata barracudas raid 0 . Ive done this at least 3-4 times chkdsk /R it did say there were two or more errors the first time and it fixed them. Ive run fixboot , chkdsk /p .... Nothing is working. Cant go into safe mode anything

One thing i did noticed when the xp pro cd was in the loading drivers part right before it prompts you for the R for repair and format. It said unexpected error(32769) line 5137 D:\xpclient\base\setup\setup.c. im thinking this might have an affect also ??

please someone help i have important things to do on my pc and dont want to reformat

I dont know why i didnt think of running the raid drivers i have. Ok soo a repair installation wouldnt help any? Will it show once i use the raid drivers? I can reformat yes but i have soo much stuff i want lol..... Another problem i think im having is i have a OEM copy of windows XP and the cd key has alrdy been used more than the number of times you can use it by a user. Dont get me wrong i have bought xp twice in the past but lost them over courses of moving, so i got tired of buying another one :( Because of this i couldnt get the sp2 updates that are critical , so ive obtained some virus and adaware in the past that i have cleaned. MOst like some files were corrupted that have now become a problem. It's wierd cause i got the BSOD after a crash in quake4 . Ive never gottin this error message before. So what do you think i should do ?

I would use the raid driver during the boot process and see if you can reinstall window on top of itself.
That should get you up and running so you can then backup all your data.
Once you have your data backed up I would do a clean install of XP.

I know that gamers like the speed of a raid 0 setup but remember you have no redundancy, if it crashes your doomed.
You might consider using a raid mirror setup that way you are always backed up with no data loss.

What Geckos saying, boot with the xp cd and hit f6 to install the drivers from the floppy for the raid. Go for a new install. hit f8 "I agree" then install to same directory, at that point it will find the other install and will give you the option to repair. Select repair.

My only problem at this point, is how do you convert a Raid0 to a Mirror setup?

Enlighten me if you have an answer--I have been known to have a "blond" moment or two :|

Also why Raid0? its twice as likely to fail as a single drive!--Am I missing something here?

I value anybodys input on this issue, there are questions here that I, as a moderator, don't have answers for.
