MOUSE NOT WORKING PROPERLY HELP ME PLEASE!!

Postby matticus » Mon Jan 09, 2006 4:07 am

right my mouse occasionally stops working properly i say occasionally, it does it quite a lot

what happens is, the pointer stops and freezes on the screen, but as i can kinda still use the mouse, cz when i move it about it hovers over stuff and if i get it in the right place i can still click things and navigate, i really dont think its the mouse or PS2 port, ive tried 3 different mouses and all have the same problem

ive tried optical and normal ball mouses with scroll and without!

is there some sort of software or graphics problems??

cheers for your help in advance

Sounds maybe like something is eating up your CPU usage and causing your computer to lag.

Hit Ctrl Alt Delete and click on the Processes tab. Look at the numbers under CPU. If anything is running at a very high cpu, that could be the cause of the problem. Try to end the process if you know what it is, and if not post in here. (System Idle process usually runs at 75-99, this is normal)

ok

Postby matticus » Mon Jan 09, 2006 1:18 pm

well everything seems very low, ie 00 or flickering onto 02 and things like that

but one thing keeps flickering between 00 and like 70, its called ashServ.exe and it says its a SYSTEM process

there is also something called ashWebServ.exe, im guessing they are related, and the word web makes me think some form of spyware or adware, i'll try closing my virus scanner and spyware scanner and see if that proccess stops as it could be them.

nope i did that and its still there, got any ideas what it could be??

my mouse has just gone mad again while writing this, its getting pretty annoying, and it never comes out of it, i have to restart and sometimes it happens again straight from restarts.

ive found a temporary way of sorting it out

Postby matticus » Mon Jan 09, 2006 1:21 pm

ok i managed to get to control panel and go on mouse settings it all seems normal to me, but i did put on the thing that when u press ctrl is shows you where the mouse is, which is now going to have to be my solution untill this gets sorted out, atleast if im doing somthing important i can sort it out.

also ive updated mouse drivers etc etc

ashserv.exe is part of the Avast Anti-virus Suite. This process is the main executable for this piece of software, and is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated. so its your anti virus and the same for the other .exe you said taking up resources. what you could do is try disable both and test if it happens still. you could also try disconnecting from the net too. I think if you post a Hi-jack this log gecko would look if anything is troubling it.

yeah its my mouse driver thing, as i dont know what make model my mouse is, i got adviced elsewhere to go for a microsoft one, like a driver to a standard scroll optical mouse driver, cz if the mouse works with microsoft, its a "microsoft compatable mouse" therefor a universal microsoft mouse driver would work.

well thats what i got told, but the driver hasnt done anything anyway!

if the worst cums to worst i'll send my PC back to where i got it

Just a thought, you could try buying a new mouse from ebay or something, there not too expensive. I have a feeling that’s its the driver.

I mean I did a quick 1 min search on ebay and found this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Logitech-Optical- ... dZViewItem

That looks fairly decent, n its cheap, so if it doesn’t fix ya problem that’s only 10 pounds gone. And it should be fairly easy to get the correct driver.

What do you recon?

yeah i suppose i could, when ive got some cash!

i need a new mouse anyway really, even if the problem isnt the mouse, i just need a slightly better one, as i get owned on unreal, cz of my mouse not moving quick enough!
hehehe

also my mate is offering me bfg nvidia 5500 256mb (the overclocked version) for £10, good deal or not? i need to upgrade from my 5200 128mb, but i really am strapped for cash!

also im really getting the hang of using all the hot keys and shortcuts on the keyboard now, and also navigating using the ctrl key to show where the mouse is, so atleast something kinda usefull has came outta this, hehehe.
